The University of Iowa Pediatric Surgery team is recognized for excellence, innovation, and leadership in the surgical care of infants, children, and adolescents.
As a Level I Children's Surgery Center and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons, we provide comprehensive surgical and trauma care for children.
Our Faculty
Our pediatric surgery team collaborates closely with specialists across University of Iowa Healthcare, including experts in maternal-fetal medicine, pediatric anesthesia, emergency medicine, intensive care, gastroenterology, and other pediatric subspecialties.
This collaborative approach ensures coordinated, patient-centered care for children with both routine and complex surgical conditions, as well as those requiring treatment for traumatic injuries.

Supporting Families Before Birth
Through our partnership with the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic, we work with expectant mothers & their care teams when prenatal testing identifies conditions that may require surgical treatment after birth.
Together, we help families understand their options, develop a care plan, and prepare for the specialized support their child may need in the neonatal period.

Our team combines established pediatric surgical expertise with the latest evidence-based treatments to provide the highest quality care.
We offer tradition, minimally invasive, and robotic-assisted surgical procedures, tailoring treatment to each child’s needs.
Training Tomorrow’s Pediatric Surgeons
As an academic medical center, we are committed to education and training. Our ACGME-accredited Pediatric Surgery Fellowship prepares the next generation of pediatric surgeons through comprehensive clinical experience, research opportunities, and mentorship from nationally recognized faculty.

Focused on Patient Experience
The pediatric surgery team is dedicated to the care of children and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Supported by pediatric advanced practice providers, nurse specialists, and a multidisciplinary care approach, the team can deliver compassionate, high-quality care when children need it most.
