Division of Transplantation and Hepatobiliary Surgery
The University of Iowa Health Care Organ Transplantation Program is a multidisciplinary, multi-organ program supported by a highly specialized team of experts.
In addition to transplant surgeons, the program brings together physicians from internal medicine specialties including nephrology, hepatology, immunology, infectious diseases, cardiology and pulmonology. This collaborative approach is strengthened by transplant coordinators, pathologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists, social workers, nutritionists, pharmacists and dedicated nursing staff.
These teams meet regularly to evaluate transplant candidates, advance research and ensure coordinated, patient-centered care at every stage of the transplant journey.
Our faculty are actively engaged in both basic science and clinical research, supported by external funding and participation in nearly two dozen multicenter, federally funded clinical protocols. The division also contributes to cardiac and lung transplantation programs, with faculty and nursing staff playing key roles in the UI Heart Transplant Clinic.
