Surgery training built for success

The Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is a two-year, ACGME accredited fellowship. As the only quaternary referral center for children in the state of Iowa, we see a wide range of operative pathology and care for highly complex patients. The Pediatric Surgical Fellowship Program at the University of Iowa is a highly competitive program that prepares our fellows to become excellent pediatric surgeons.

Lindel Dewberry portrait

Iowa City itself is a great place to live. There's a lot of great restaurants, and I've even had a chance to tailgate and experience game day, which is really fun. That's also been a really nice way to get out of the hospital. All I can say is it's been really easy to live here.

Ethan Rodriguez: Local location means specialty care close to home

Ethan has faced health challenges since birth, one of which led to surgery for the young boy from Illinois. Fortunately, the Rodriguez family didn’t need to travel far from home for their pre- and post-surgery appointments.

Manahl Family: Advocates for lawn mower safety after accident

On Aug. 30, 2017, life changed for Ryan Manahl and his family (Cedar Falls, IA) when his 3-year-old son, Tate, was accidentally run over with a lawn mower. “I tried to keep him calm but I kept thinking the worst – ‘Is this really it? Is my son going to die in my arms right now and he hasn’t even started to live his life?’”
