The Department of Surgery welcomes a new class of postgraduate year one (PGY-1) residents, bringing together a diverse group of future surgeons from medical schools across the U.S. and abroad.
This year’s General Surgery categorical interns include Noah Antes, University of North Dakota; Nicholas Bovio, Western Michigan University; Chase DeLong, University of Miami; Alayna Dieter, Chicago Medical School; Kristin Haraldsdottir, University of Iceland; Linda Jung, Rutgers University; and Kevin Lawrence, University of Iowa.
The General Surgery preliminary class includes Christopher Franke, John Pape and Aline Thiengmany, all graduates of the University of Iowa.
The department also welcomes Linda Peng, Integrated Vascular Surgery resident, and Amy Huang, Integrated Plastic Surgery resident, both graduates of the University of Iowa.
“We are thrilled to welcome this talented group of residents to our program,” said Dr. Reed, program director. “They bring strong academic backgrounds, diverse experiences and a shared commitment to excellence in patient care and surgical education. We look forward to supporting their growth as they begin this important stage in their careers.”
As they begin their training, the new PGY-1 residents join a community dedicated to advancing surgical care, education and research — and to preparing the next generation of surgical leaders.
The department also welcomes Cameron Villarreal, a PGY-3 resident who earned a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine.
Joining the Department of Surgery for their first year of training at UI Health Care are Urology residents Catherine (Kate) Adaniya, Sameer Ansari, Rayna Kaeppe and Jacob LaMay; Integrated Radiology resident Eric Teichner; and Cardiothoracic Surgery resident Shivam Agnihotri.
