Train Here. Thrive Here. Lead Anywhere.

Our ACGME-accredited, five-year residency program prepares residents for successful careers in vascular surgery. Graduates are eligible for board certification through the American Board of Surgery and leave with the experience and confidence to pursue advanced training, enter clinical practice or build careers in academic medicine.

Hands-On Training and Mentorship

Residents train in a high-volume environment, gaining hands-on experience managing a diverse patient population and complex vascular conditions while developing the clinical judgment and technical expertise required for independent practice.

Training is supported by faculty with backgrounds from leading institutions across the country, providing mentorship and a breadth of perspectives.

Maen Aboul Hosn, MD

"At Iowa, we combine exceptional operative volume with a culture of trust and mentorship. Our residents gain extensive experience in both open and endovascular surgery while receiving graduated autonomy throughout their training. I firmly believe surgeons learn best in an environment where they are supported, encouraged to take ownership of patient care, and given the opportunity to learn from mistakes before entering independent practice. This philosophy helps us develop confident, capable vascular surgeons ready for any challenge."
